The youths were demanding that East Timorese pro-independence leader, Jose Ramos Horta, leave Indonesia. "If Horta is still here tomorrow (Thursday), we will come and expel him like a dog," alliance chairman, Joao Angelo de Souca Mota, said following a 30-minute meeting between five alliance members and East Timorese Bishop Carlos Belo, jailed pro- independence Xanana Gusmao, Horta and spokesman of the dialog's organizing commitee, Domingos Sequeira. The alliance, represented by Mota, Vasco, Ricky Hendrique, Valentim, and Miquel, conveyed a 14-point petition during the meeting. In the petition, the alliance expressed its support for the talks initiated by Belo and fellow Bishop Bacilio do Nascimneto but also made known its objection on Horta's participation. "We regret it and urge the political adventurer (Horta) who has been active in raising the East Timor issue and human rights violations in the territory without a deep understanding of the issue," the alliance said in the petition. "It is all political engineering, to be commercialized in the international community for personal and group interests," it added. Mota said the East Timorese no longer want the presence of "street politicians" who speak on behalf of the people when in fact the people want to determine their own destiny. "His (Horta's) choice does not represent the people's choice on East Timor's future," he said. "I will talk about the demand with other officials (of the pro- independence group CNRT). If they do not want my staying here, I will leave Indonesian soon," Mota quoted Horta as saying.
