Spokesperson for the military operations code name Sadar Rencong II 1999 Lt. Col. (Pol) Sayed Husainy here Tuesday confirmed that the people from the Aceh Singkil district claiming themselves GAM followers have with their own wish surrendered to the local security authorities. The former GAM members who were once engaged in a training by the GAM's armed wing have been sent home, he said. According to Sayed, the first group of 145 GAM members surrendered to the security authorities on Sunday and the figure rose to 310 on Monday. It seemed that they have realized what they had done so far was useless so that with their own awareness they decided to return to the Indonesian government, he said. No one handed down arms when they surrendered themselves to the local authorities, Sayed said, adding that they would however be treated well as they are actually members of the Acehnese society.
