"Unrests can happen everywhere, not only in this country, and even the widespread arson in a country has not been proven to have hamper the flow of foreign investment into Indonesian Foreign Minister Alwi Shihab told newsmen here Thursday. He said the archipelago with a total population of more than 202 million is one "enjoying" the support of the international community because it fells that the democratization process has been taking place properly in the pluralistic archipelago. "Almost all countries wish to assist Indonesia both politically, economically and financially," he said. The world community's support, he said would be an meaningful means for the current government to resolve the existing domestic problems, including those threatening the nation's integrity. Shihab again reiterated he government's confidence that the Aceh question will be solved, saying that a way out would be reach through a peaceful settlement under the spirit of national unity. Asked what the guarantee, the Indonesian gives to the investors amid the threats of disintegration and ongoing clashes, like those in the provinces of Aceh, Irian Jaya. Maluku and North Maluku, he said the nation need not worry too much. "Every nation has its problems. The most important thing is that the government is seriously trying to solve them." He said he feels confident that the world community believes in the government's seriousness in dealing with the problems. I another part of his press briefing, he touched on the president's plan to make a 15-day tour of a number of European, Asian and Middle Eastern countries. The countries that the head of state will be visiting are Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, Holland, Germany, Italy (including Vatican), Czech Republic, Belgium, India, South Korea and Thailand. The president and an entourage are due to leave Jakarta on Friday morning and return here on February 13.
