"It is untrue (that the Indonesian military attacked an UNTAET helicopter). What is our interest in shooting the chopper?" Graito told journalists during a stopover at the Ngurah Rai airport here Tuesday on his way from Jakarta to Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara. "The Australian news reports were totally baseless. The foreign press have always tried to blow up news which corner Indonesia, notably the military operations at the East Nusa Tenggara border," said Graito, who was accompanied by chief of the Udayana regional military command, Maj Gen Kiki Syahnakri. Kiki said it was impossible for the military to attack the chopper which flew over an East Timorese district, 5 km from the border. East Nusa Tenggara shares a border with East Timor. He did not deny the possibility that pro-integrationists could have been involved in the attack. Graito also dismissed as baseless such foreign news reports as the incident in Aksabe district, East Timor. The news reports said Indonesian military troops sneaked into Aksabe and provoked riots that claimed one life. Kiki said Aksabe, 80 km east of the border, was a pro- integration camp which has become a battle ground between pro- integration and pro-independence East Timorese.
