See (info "(gnus) Combined Groups") to make an nnvirtual group.

It's not about _a_ mark: _all_ marks are synchronised two-way. So just
make sure the new group's newsrc is uploaded _before_ nnimap updates it
(and the reverse, during download).

I mean, try.
