I felt the same way til Friday, not being real sure about adding the open
source material to Sharepoint, talked with an MS rep on Friday, added the
role this weekend, only to realize my 2 gigs won't be able to do much. One
could even create a workstation in the virtual network to see how it all
plays together.

Now to find/buy some more memory.

I can see where that could be useful - thanks

I don't have the resources to create an actually server to see how something
new works, or even if I want it on my network, but having something to test,
I can throw it on a virtual server and see the bugs.

Give me an example of where I would want to virtualize servers for a school
district. We have a few servers but they have not become unmanageable. I am
looking toward reducing the number of servers we have but a centralized
scenario is not in the near future.

You'll want at least 4 gigs, it will make running Hyper-V a lot easier, even
if it's just to have a test server.

Hello All,

Question for all Windows server admins: How is everyone specking out their
servers for server 2008? For domain controllers are you going with the
Microsoft's suggested 2008 Standard with 4 gig of ram or are you putting
2008 Enterprise with more ram on the domain controllers?

Thanks,
