The server will try to use the proper sending IP if the setting is set to AUTO (from
an MX lookup on the sending email address). The server will then ask Windows to use
that IP. At that point Windows will either accept the request (meaning that there is a
known route from that IP to the destination) or it will select an alternate IP if
necessary.
The iMS POST log will show the IP that iMS is asking Windows to use, BTW.
