We already have this guide to writing extensions:
https://inkscape.org/en/develop/extensions/

As far as I understand, it could use some "fleshing out" in some
places. But
mostly writing extensions is over my head, so someone else would have
to point
out which places need more work. At the bottom of the page tells
about
publishing therm.

Is that what you were thinking of? Or did you have something else in
mind?

It's just that not all people who write extensions will see that, or
necessarily
want to put them in the gallery. That's why my original message was
about
finding people to test them.

But now, I'm thinking it might be better to just remind the developers
to
include the Inkscape versions and operating systems which it works
with, when
they upload them.

Is it possible for us to create a draft of a HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR
EXTENSIONS for
the Inkscape project form the Gitlab wiki pages?

If yes I/we can draft something. What do you think? Do we have a
central place
to host the extensions of at least to guide users/developers on how to
create/distribute them?

Yes, it could be something like check boxes for the systems and
versions.

We do already have the possibility for the developer to use tags to
indicate
this. But I haven't seen them being used consistently. Some
developers seem to
use some of them, but not all, and not all devs are using them.

(In some cases, I'm just happy that the developer has uploaded to the
gallery at
all. But on the other hand, it would be SO nice to have this info
available for
users.)

I can understand how it would take some extra time and energy (for the
website
developers) to make checkboxes or something. But I would be happy if
just a
sentence or 2 could be displayed. Something like "Please indicate all
Inkscape
versions which this extension is known to work with, as well as all
operating
systems."

I'm not sure what you mean with "extract and copy" or "need to
install". Unless
it's something about the Django code?

Actually I just had another thought about this.

Is it unreasonable to expect that the extension developer knows which
versions
or operating systems their extension works with? Why not make sure the
developer shares that when the extension is released to the community?

Would it be possible to have extra fields be displayed, in the upload
form, when
the Extensions category is chosen? Is there any way to configure the
upload
form, so that info has to be provided, before it will upload?

Or if not mandatory fields, would it be possible to just display a
prominent
notice, when the Extensions category is selected, asking the developer
to
please, please, please include that info?

All best,
brynn
