i think the problem is rather related to zones on zfs, isn't it?
did you try to detach all your zones before upgrading? did you use a 
jumpstart server?

i don't think it's relevant. If you detach zones, there are chance that 
you can't attach them on the new S10U5, due to patches and packages 
differences
