You are right, we don't have the ability to customize the disk slice 
layout in SXDE. This was intentional to provide as few clicks as 
possible for installing Solaris. SXDE is aimed at the beginner 
developer, new to developing on Solaris.

This code, that is the SXDE GUI, is the same that is used in Indiana. We 
don't allow for customization of disk layout, other than fdisk 
partitions, with this either. Again the simplification of this was 
intended. We use ZFS root with Indiana so customization of disk layout 
is somewhat less important. Since the root pool contains the necessary 
filesystems and all are shared space in the pool. however, my suggestion 
would be to file an rfe via bugzilla if you would like to see more 
customization allowed with regard to disk layout.
