The only problem with this is that out of the 1,117 messages I have in
my install-discuss mail archive (going back to March '06), only 306
appear to have been posted via the web forums. That tells me that the
mailing list interface is in far more use than the forums (which isn't
at all surprising to me).

It seems to me that you need to make whatever information your trying to
convey as accessible (and by accessible I don't just mean having
postings in a forum that people have to pick through) to as many people
as possible if you want the broadest possible input (which I think you
do and should be a goal for all of us).

With that said, by providing a detailed design document then everyone
can participate in reviewing it no matter what medium they choose to use
to provide feedback far more easily than having to piece together
various email messages or forum postings. It's also much easier for new
reviewers to come up to speed since all the information they should need
is in one document and not spread across forum posts. It's also much
easier to update a single document as the design changes (regardless of
how your reading things, trying to follow a design as it evolves via
forum postings is beyond inconvenient and dare I say impossible).

I will say that I've been trying to follow what your doing and I got
lost pretty early on because of the way your presenting things.

We're trying to build a community here, that means (IMO) making things as
easy as possible for people to get involved (among other things).

Cheers,
