That's a function of the installer, not the OS itself. You can use the other installers (text only, etc) and you will not need so much memory and install Solaris Nevada builds (Note that OpenSolaris is *not* the appropriate forum for discussion of Solaris 10 specifically when you start of with "we cannot use Solaris 11 because ...".
