I just installed 2 of these about 2 hours ago with no problems. One of them has 7 monitors hanging off it with a map on 6 and 3 graphs on the 7th.
Since you mention java - make sure that you have the latest java running - which is 1.6 update 6 at the moment. Java is really important. To downgrade just install your last working code.
