All of InterMapper's SNMP probes attempt to obtain chassis information
from the ENTITY-MIB. In particular, the entPhysicalTable often has
information about the device's vendor and serial number. This
information is exported to the database, and available for export in the
"devices" table, but we do not display it in the status window. This is
an apparent oversight on our part, and something I hope to correct for
version 5.3.

You do not have to write a special probe. It's built-in.
