i'm going to vote git as well. it's much faster than hg (tested on the same repo, after i got fed up with fighting hg to find the block of code i was looking for, git grep is an order of magnitude faster than hg grep), and it's much better about refusing to destroy uncommited changes unless you explicitly ask it to (i've seen hg pull && hg update just about trash the working copy).
