Before we reinvent the wheel, has anyone looked at potential lightweight
cross-platform alternatives. A quick Web search brings up OpenMP
<http://openmp.org/wp/openmp-compilers/>, for example. It appears to be
fairly lightweight (e.g. 87K dynamic library and 65K static library for GCC
on my Ubuntu 15.04 pre-release box). However, I'm not very familiar with
it so I could be wrong about the sizes.
