I'm not that surprised from Apple with this "whatever devs do, in the end we have full control" but i really sounds silly/weird to me to add a pattern feature (which is pretty cool when you think about it) and lock it to [0-9]* or \d* (or digital i assume). It would have been a good opportunity to use all kind of regular expressions to set as much keymaps as needed...
