Actually, in thinking about it a bit more, I think the real problem is with a strange usage case -- copying the addrinfo structure inside a library will lead to a garbage result. It isn't just the old library that's the problem; it's the old library attempting to manipulate a structure that 'belongs' to someone else and thus getting it wrong.
