Elliott Clark commented on HBASE-13339:
---------------------------------------
I really don't see how forcing users to do this is any better than doing it
ourselves. 2.6.0 is better in just about every way. Hence I can't see
recommending 2.5 to anyone ever. Yes I'd love to live in a world where Hadoop
and it's dependencies are hidden from our users. However I don't think that
stagnating our version of hadoop and making some features ( tiered storage, and
AES over the wire ) un-usable is a solution. It's just playing ostrich and
ignoring that things are moving forward.
I just went through and from eyeballing all that changes is that some
dependencies are added. I don't see the large harm on adding some transitive
dependencies ( that ship has already sailed ).

> Current default Hadoop version is getting a little long in the tooth. We
> should update to the latest version. The latest version is backwards
> compatible with 2.5.1's dfs and mr so this should be painless.
