David Smiley commented on SOLR-14066: ------------------------------------- I'm late to this comment-party. I'd bet the DIH is our most popular contrib module, and for good reason. Furthermore, remember it's a contrib, not core, and we've taken steps lately to ensure our default configSet doesn't go importing contrib modules by default. There is no urgency. The messaging to users shouldn't be about "deprecate/remove", but instead "move". It's an important distinction in the psyche of our users, even though to our codebase, it's no different. So I don't think we should be committing any changes, since the changes I saw here are only going to scare users away. Even if it gets "moved", there's no reason to log any warning; that'll be a CHANGES.txt notice to direct users to find it in its new location. Even if no 3rd party volunteers host the package, one of us will even if we don't bother maintaining it. It's the least we can do. When 9.0 hits, it needs to be found _somewhere_. FYI yes [~arafalov] DIH works in SorlCloud and even has a SolrCloud specific aspect like how it stores it's properties file in ZK. > Deprecate DIH > ------------- > > Key: SOLR-14066 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-14066 > Project: Solr > Issue Type: Improvement > Security Level: Public(Default Security Level. DIH doesn't need to remain inside > Solr anymore. Let us deprecate DIH in 8.4 (and remove it from the Solr distro > in 9x or 10x). -- This message was sent by Atlassian Jira (v8.3.4#803005) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: issues-unsubscr...@lucene.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: issues-h...@lucene.apache.org
