Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-14066: ------------------------------------ David is right and I have changed my mind on the order of events here. While DIH is not a perfect solution in any way, and we cannot keep it long term without proper love and care, it is a very much used module and we owe our community a more thought-through approach than hastily deprecating it out of the blue. Here's a less controversial plan: # In 8.4 we already take a few steps such as limit the exposure to DIH for default configset users. # Can we do more in terms of documentation to warn against the risks of DIH's scripting capabilities? # We send a "Future of DIH" mail to the lists with the goal of communicating our long-term intent and solicit if anyone can help fix it or simplytake over # We turn DIH as a plugin package, thus making it not part of main download but an explicit opt-in in install (from Apache repos) # We hand over development to whoever wants to take over # We communicate to community the new package repo to use for DIH I'm hoping that step 3 will result in someone stepping up. If not we can always revisit the maintenance question further down the road. > Deprecate DIH > ------------- > > Key: SOLR-14066 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-14066 > Project: Solr > Issue Type: Improvement > Security Level: Public(Default Security Level.
