I'll let Jan comment on that in detail - but from my POV the work here is NOT
done for the reasons I listed above, and if it takes veto to complete it before
the release, so be it.
Jan's concern about the UI is also valid - now the ops can't block the old API
because the UI still uses it, so they need to open both the old one and the new
one - which in fact does increase the public API surface to be secured.
