Cassandra Targett commented on SOLR-15600:
------------------------------------------

bq. Can anyone confirm that all of the listed companies actually do use Solr in
production?

This is a bit of a thorny problem.

It will be a bit of a research project to verify some of those. Some of those
names have been on the list for a long time, and some certainly have moved to
other things.

Others may have moved to a mix of applications - eBay is listed on Elastic's
website, for example
(https://www.elastic.co/videos/ebay-and-elasticsearch-this-is-not-small-data),
but that doesn't mean they don't also use Solr "in production" in some capacity.

IBM Websphere Commerce is no longer IBM:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HCL_Commerce, but does apparently still use Solr
(via Google).

The Sears logo is obsolete, and Sears barely exists anymore.

Companies have strict policies about where and how their logo can be used, and
what their name can be associated with, so we can't just assume because we know
Company X is using Solr (knowledge we may have come by with expectations of
confidentiality) that we can list them on the website. We couldn't just swap
out Sears' logo, for example, because we should make sure we have their
permission.

Even if a member of the user community can affirm their company is using Solr,
that doesn't mean they have the authority to let us use their name and/or logo.
But maybe we could draft an email to the community asking for people who are
willing to help us revamp our "powered by" list?

> Move Powered By logos to separate page

> See email from ASF. Solr is in violation of a policy:
> {quote}IMPORTANT: PMCs who list "powered by" companies on their Project sites
> (organizations that are using your project --in their products/solutions or
> otherwise) MUST NOT BE DOING SO ON THE PROJECT HOME PAGE.{quote}
> The reason Solr has not been "detected" until now is that solr was a sub page
> of lucene.apache.org but now the page with the illegal logos is on the HOME
> PAGE of solr.apache.org :)
>
> It should be easy to just put the "powered by" section on a sub page instead
> of on the HOME page of our site.
>
> This should be done within September 2021.
