Indeed, highlighting is maybe the most configurable component; perhaps Faceting may have more depending on how one looks at it. I think this should already be obvious to anyone who has visited the ref guide page on it -- lots to document and some are semi-documented via the default solrconfig.xml as well. I like that most parameters are hidden behind an "advanced" toggle. No need to overwhelm the user. It's common to see no highlights for a myriad of reasons. Don't forget "hl.fl" which is technically optional but practically speaking is almost always used. A usability issue. For testing, I suggest just ensuring the parameters are being sent as you think they should be based on the UI. That the UI resets itself appropriately if you switch the hl.method.
