1. how do I decode the image (counter-question: what type of image are
you using?)
2. what ranges of gray are considered to be white?

how do I know if such a spot really is a spot and not a character.
In other words: I don't think this is the way to go because it will cost
a lot of time to implement.
However, if you do implement this, don't forget to post the code you
wrote so that we can add it to iText.
