Write the complex code necessary to do the same things that they are doing...
Its not a single API call - you will need to understand the nuances of the PDF format and then write low level code to process each object of the file and do whatever operations you feel are appropriate. Or you can purchase/license one of the various commercial applications that already do this sort of stuff for you... That might be one way to focus the problem but, in such case, how can I achive this kind of "compression" benefit programatically? NOT the application of additional compression features. When you throw things away - it's amazing how small you can get! I'm using version 2.1.7, with IBM's JDK included in Rational Software Developer, "java -version", says: java version "1.5.0" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build pwi32devifx-20080303 (SR6b + IZ15865)) IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 Windows Vista x86-32 j9vmwi3223ifx-20080303 (JIT enabled) J9VM - 20080228_17641_lHdSMR JIT - 20070820_1846ifx1_r8 GC - 200802_28) JCL - 20071025 I Can't seem to make iText's PDF compression feature work, I've tried every example I could find about this subject, but most of them are either brokern (I've corrected them), or just don't compress at all. I've tried setting compression levels in PdfCopy class instances, and also invoked setFullCompression() on both PdfStamper and PdfCopy, but haven't been able to make a worthwhile compression out of a original 1.87MB PDF file, which if opened in Acrobat Reader and then print using the "PDF Creator" (with default settings) windows printer driver, gets shrunk upto 98KB. Any ideas on what could be wrong? The Original PDF File is available at: http://bit.ly/riPFK The PDF Creator shrunk PDF is at: http://bit.ly/3klm6M And some code I've tested is at: http://bit.ly/4fiwCc Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -- Atentamente, Gonzalo Vásquez Sáez Gerente de Proyectos Altiuz | Neox Desarrollo Nueva Tajamar 555 Of. 802 Las Condes - Santiago Fonos 56 (2) 335 2461 / 203 6200 [cid:image001.jpg@01CA694C.1F9E4EE0]<http://www.neox.cl> [cid:image002.gif@01CA694C.1F9E4EE0] IBM Certified Advanced Application Developer Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software ________________________________ [cid:image003.gif@01CA694C.1F9E4EE0] IBM Certified Database Associate DB2 Universal Database Family ________________________________ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial.
