I rolled back through the past versions of Firefox to confirm that this was introduced in Firefox 19 - which is the first version with the new built-in PDF.js viewer. So, this has never worked in Mozilla's PDF viewer. Very disappointed with Mozilla, hopefully they fix this soon.
