Mark,
I tested it today, and so far it looks promising.. Patch did not
apply cleanly to my current svn build, but it was close. All is
working so far... Crossing fingers
I'd expect there'd to be a couple of failed hunks in ivtv-driver.c due
to the separate export patch for ivtv_reset_ir_gpio having been
applied to SVN already. That shouldn't matter.
Do let me know how long it stays up for. I've had it working since
the 4th with no trouble.
Dear Mark,
I got bad news... Either I patched wrong or there is a bug still lurking
somewhere...
Even if I am now able to keep responsiveness for "much" longer (30
minutes now instead of minutes before), the bus still resets after a
while...
At least I managed to play with the remote for a bit...
Could you update the i2c patch to the new stable release v0.4.0, so we
can have a stable comparaison base? In my own best interest, I will
gladly provide debug logs!
Sorry for the long delay on this. I've still not found time to update
the patch (when I tried, the SVN server was temporarily down). If the
patch applied with just a few hunks rejected in ivtv-driver.c it should
be OK though (you can mail me the rejects directly if you want and I can
check them over).
You might want to try the driver from
http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/blog/?p=19, which auto-resets the
chip if it fails. It also sends an additional 'poll' command to the
chip as per the windows driver, which the lirc_i2c driver doesn't. I
don't know if this is at all necessary, but that might be the difference.
Since I wrote and applied the i2c patch, I've had no remote issues at
all (i.e. chip does not auto-reset), this has worked for a few other
people as well, so I would be interested in seeing what further results
you get with it. If that lot doesn't help, try sending me the output
around when it fails with ivtv_debug=255 (that will generate _a lot_ of
debug information so probably better to put it up somewhere for download
or mail it to me directly rather than posting it to the list).
I will try and get the patch updated to the current 0.4 branch sometime
this week, although I've got a lot on again so it might not happen.
Thanks,
Mark
