Unfortunately, I can confirm this: gcc-4.1 _breaks_ ivtv-0.6.
At least the gcc that ships with SuSE 4.1 (rpm: gcc-4.1.0-25),
I've not tested vanilla gcc 4.1.

However, please note that I did not have any problem with SuSE
gcc 4.1 yet but with the ivtv 0.6 driver. VMware Server Beta,
for instance, runs fine under vanilla 2.6.16.22, both compiled
with SuSE's gcc 4.1.

Therefore I'd suspect that some bug in ivtv is triggerd by gcc
4.1. Or, more unlikely but still possible, ivtv shows a bug in
gcc 4.1.

Can somebody confirm this?

To verify the compiler issue, I've built vanilla gcc-3.4.6 under
SuSE 10.1 (using gcc 4.1 ;-) and used gcc 3.4.6 to compile kernel
2.6.16.22 and ivtv-0.6.3. Now, loading the ivtv module succeeds:

dmesg:
