One thing I've been a bit dissappointed in with regards to IVTV and the
PVR150 is that playback can't be realtime with mplayer.
My previous tv tuner card, an STB bt878-based device, had real-time
display that was suitable for playing video games/etc. from outside
sources.
Using ivtv and mplayer, there's a buffer that has to be filled and that
leads to a lag of several seconds.
Am I missing something obvious? Is there another application suitable
for this purpose, or another set of parameters I can pass mplayer to
achieve the same effect?
you do realise that the 150 takes the video signal and converts it into mpeg2
then in software you take that mpeg2 stream and convert it back to video and
send it o your display? your other tv tuner card just grabs the video - no
wonder it is faster at that - it is not doing much - but then it is not so
good for recording.
if all you want to do is play games (from external sources, as you describe
it) then with the 150 you have the wrong card (IMHO)

Yes, I realize how the device works; fortunately, I bought the 150 to
capture various video inputs and burn them onto CD-ROM.
I had really just hoped to be able to toss the bt878 and simplify my
setup, but if that's not in the cards then so be it...
