Jim,

Swap spaced used (according to top) is a mere 120k (with 2GB free).

How can I check for Swap Wait mode? According to the ps man page, the W
process state code is "not valid since the 2.6.xx kernel". Is there some
other way to tell? I'm not getting any SW and I assume that with the mere
120k of swap space being used, I won't get much.

As I said, this is a machine with 1GB of RAM and other than capturing, I use
it for mencoder, a firewall/proxy using iptables, and a file server. And
since I'm running these tests without mencoder running concurrently and
still seeing the problem, I'm fairly certain it's not a memory/swap issue.

Pete
