Forgot the argument why no pseudo variables. These are used to circumvent read-modify-write problem when (re)setting an individual pin. For PICs with LAT registers a pseudo variable is used to redirect the write to a pin (a bit of a PORT) to the corresponding bit of a LAT register. Since the 'missing' pins we are talking about here are input only (when not in use by USB modules or the like) there is no need to redirect write operations.
