So we got a scare...
MPLAB-8 & MPLAB-X are normally in separate sub-folders so they may coexist.
AFAIK you should not remove .dev files because they may be required if you
plan to use MPLAB-8.
BTW: Did you noticed that there's tons of duplicated .jar files?
e.g., .\MPLABX\mplab_ide\mplablibs\modules\ext files are duplicated
into .\MPLABX\mplab_ide\bin\lib.
Source of confusion, wasted disk space, download time, ...
