We (meaning Peter Donald) branched the avalon cvs from the 25th June
(about 5 mins after the date-timestamp on the jars in the JAMES dist and
JAMES cvs). This branch compiles to the jars (as one would hope). The
avalon patches need to be put on this branch (which I think Peter is
doing). Once avalon has stabilised, it should be easy to migrate the
patches to the main avalon branch.

Even if you don't want to use TLS, to compile JAMES with these patches,
you need the patched SocketServer. Perhaps we should compile that and
update the jar. For that matter, we could compile all the patched avalon
classes and update the jar in James - then people could downloaded the
new jars and cvs source but would not be need either to use TLS or even
to have JSSE. What do you think?
