I agree with the concern over isolating terrain information to a separate list and whether those who have expressed interest are primarily beginners just want to learn more. In our case, we have a commercial product in mind, but we may or may not use the information made available in this list. I suspect there is a significant number of "legitimate" (my word) terrain information-seekers out there who simply want the information to be presented in greater depth; my asumption is that a separate list would provide more concentration of data. If this is incorrect, then I'm all for providing the terrain information in this, general-purpose forum.

A total of ~40 answers. There were 4 that wanted to keep it on the main
list, another 3-4 that would prefer it on the main list but would join
if there was a separate one. The rest were of a "sign me up please"
nature. The one minor thing that I am concerned about is that of the
people that replied, only a few of them were names that I recognized as
people doing terrain rendering today. The rest, to my uninformed eye,
are beginners wanting to learn more. Hopefully that doesn't skew the
content of the list to the point where everyone asks questions but there
is noone with sufficient knowledge to answer.

I've got the basic ROAM running now so the list should be opening
tomorrow sometime. I'll post more info then.
