Hi Dimitry and Gary
I have a Pentium II/450, NT4 SP5, STB version of nVidia RIVA TNT, JDK 1.2.1,
J3D 1.1.2, but with 256 Mb of RAM.
About half of the Java 3D examples completely lock up NT, but so do some OpenGL
demos kindly provided by 3Dlabs (see http://www.3dlabs.com/support/index.html
demos - try RollerCoaster). I have tried both the latest STB driver (1317) and
latest nVidia driver, which allows the demos to run for slightly longer before
crashing.
I think that my problem, and possibly yours, relate to the RIVA TNT OpenGL
driver and its derivatives, rather than Java 3D per se. If I run in standard
VGA mode and use the software renderer provided with NT the demos all run in
glorious 16 colours without a hitch.
If anyone knows how to disable the RIVA hardware renderer in favour of the
Windows NT software version (OPENGL32.DLL) I'd appreciate hearing about it.
I'd also gladly be corrected.
