Oops, wrong email. Well, I listened to podcast 301 and I have to say I agree somewhat with Joe's position.
That is not particularly meaningful, but what is meaningful is that Joe expressed it(adamantly :). As a result the discussion turned out to be a good one. If there had only been patent bashers the discussion would not have been as meaningful. (or entertaining. :) --- On Tue, 4/13/10, Rakesh <rakesh.mailgro...@gmail.com> wrote: From: Rakesh <rakesh.mailgro...@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [The Java Posse] Re: Software Patents and Joe bashing To: javaposse@googlegroups.com Date: Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 12:51 PM errrrrr...no On Tue, Apr 13, 2010 at 7:21 PM, Scott Melton <scott_rides_ag...@yahoo.com> wrote: Are you by any chance Rakesh Menon? Stating Joe has an Apple bias is not an insult but pretty much a fact that can be backed up with examples. Sorry Scott but I can't help feeling you are , as we say in the UK, stirring. I may resemble a young baboon but even I don't buy that one. Regarding your post about Joe deserving the beating. Your rational falls well short of polite behavior. You say if he deserves it, I guess meaning it is true, it's ok for someone to insult and berate him? If someone personally insults someone else, then maybe your argument holds some water, even though I'd argue that retaliation in kind is usually not the best way to handle things. Fact is, he did not. He voiced his opinion and now you are telling me that because you think he is wrong he deserves to be personally insulted in public? I don't think so. Not even in my backyard. Even if we were sitting in my backyard drinking beer and telling dirty jokes, try calling Willy Nelson a burned out old hippy. It may be true, but I doubt he'd cotton to it. (no, I don't know the burned out old hippy ;) This isn't my backyard. It's a professional forum of your peers read by (possibly) thousands of people of all walks of life, burned into virtual stone for posterity to read and ponder. Women, children and people of other cultures who might find ugly or off color posts offensive or at least, unpleasant. Some people might be ok with them, thick skin and all, but it's these others that we should consider when we choose our wording. Or at least, that is my opinion, from my country, Texas, my culture, Texas, imposing my behavioral standards from Texas, blah blah blah... People who write these laws are retarded morons who get played by lobbyists. A british MP (something that bears some resemblance to a US senator or house representative) recently wrote a letter to another MP to try to convince her of the importance of a new law that, amongst many other things, will bring a three-strikes-and-you're-out system to internet access in the United Kingdom: If you get *accused* 3 times of breaking copyright law, you get your internet disconnected. It's not quite - that- dramatic, but that's not really the point. The letter included the following text: An IP Address (Intellectual Property Address) That's right. Apparently IP Address doesn't stand for Internet Protocol Address anymore. See. Idiots. Regardless of whether the current patent system is good or bad, and regardless of whether joe is being bashed, and regardless of whether or not he deserves that, your point about the current law being made by people 'infinitely more knowledgable than you' is only true if you're a baby baboon with a learning difficulty. You seem to be able to type, so, I doubt that. Is the change a choice between the lesser of two weavels? Certainly. Infinitely more knowledgeable people than I made the decision. I will side with them until I become a patent lawyer or become so well informed that I can pass judgment on this complicated system. > > On to the Joe bashing or un-bashing if you will.
