There probably is a command to either turn off your monitor, or at least turn down the brightness. But it depends on what brand you are using. For a Dell, you can do a function key down arrow to dim the brightness, but don't know of any command to actually turn it off. On a Sony you can do a function key f5 to dim it, but again, no command to actually turn it off. If you have someone sighted to look at your functions keys along the top, you should see a picture telling you how you can use that key along with the function key. Don't be confused, the functions keys across the top, f1 - f12, or different than the stand alone function key located elsewhere on your keyboard.

Now for the question I have, I have a laptop I use at church and I was curious if their is a way to turn off the screen. I think it is a distraction for the people when I am teaching Sunday school or at times when I am doing the Sunday service. Sure would appreciate the information if their is a way to turn it off.
