Interesting that you say that. I've never had a problem with using that function until my Dell Latitude D420. When the laptop is in the docking station and I switch the display to external only, JAWS is not happy. If I leave it on both laptop and external, JAWS is fine. Now I have not tried using the external monitor with the docking station, so I am not sure if that will change how JAWS responds.

Jaws always quit speaking whenever I would do that. I don't have a Dell now or I would give it another try. All of my Toshibas that I have used over the years have had a similar key combination. Usually, keys that work with the keyboard Function key are coded with a different colored image. Have a sighted person look at the keyboard and see if they can find an icon on a key that represents a video display and matches the color on the keyboard Function key. Now for the question I have, I have a laptop I use at church and I was curious if their is a way to turn off the screen. I think it is a distraction for the people when I am teaching Sunday school or at times when I am doing the Sunday service. Sure would appreciate the information if their is a way to turn it off.
