NO need to be quite so cynical, Dave!! Each version (as opposed to update) does introduce a new feature of some kind. For example, 2018 dramatically improves the installation process, gives greater range for OCR, and so on.
That said, JAWS 2018 doesn't work as well for me with IE11 and Outlook 2010, and so I'm constantly switching between 2018 and the prior version 18. Dave, I know you often go back as far as JAWS 16. Are there always good, convincing reasons for an annual new version, other than ensuring VFO has a nice revenue stream? Debatable. But I do have the sense that many improvements occur behind the scenes as its software engineers adapt to a changing Web. So by staying up to date with our SMAs, we're probably paying for adjustments about which we know little or nothing. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Dave...Oregonian Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 2:58 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion They are just fixing bugs they created, and creating other new bugs. So if the current version is not working to your liking, you update to the next one, and have something else to complain about. Makes no sense, but that's the world of software. However, between user reports of problems and ever-evolving technology, VFO must keep updating. These updates are assigned numbers that begin with the current version, right now 2018. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of sandy Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 8:19 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion please folks, please explain to someone who isn't as tech savy as the majority of you, why there needs to be more than 1 jaws version per jaws number? -----Original Message----- From: Dave...Oregonian Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 12:08 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion Gary, You asked: "...I have installed all updates that jaws has told me about. also received a jaws 2018 cd. just wondering if the updates I installed covered that." No. JAWS 2018, as others have said, is a completely different version from JAWS 18. You need to install JAWS 2018 from your DVD and then check for updates before you will be "up to date". It's starts all over, and you need to install it separately from JAWS 18. You can do this with the 2018 disc or by updating from the VFO website. If you install from the CD, you'll need to update the way you do with JAWS 18, except you'll use the JAWS 2018 menu system, or else (again) by going to the website -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Gary Lee Sent: Friday, January 19, 2018 6:55 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion I understand how to get the version. what I have is jaws 18.0.4534.400 I have installed all updates that jaws has told me about. also received a jaws 2018 cd. just wondering if the updates I installed covered that. > On Jan 19, 2018, at 3:18 PM, Gary Lee <kb9...@arrl.net> wrote: > > What version number should I see if I have the latest jaws 2018 installed? > I see jaws 18, but can’t get to the version right now. > > thanks for the help. > > > For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: > http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
