Dale!  I had to take a different route than the one you suggested to find the 
highlighted text thingie in the Jaws Configuration Manager [question:  why is 
it JCF and not JCM?] , but I am afraid that it has not prevented Jaws from 
reading the menu or toolbar or whatever it is reading.  Great suggestion though 
from both David and Dale!  Thanks guys!

The serial number I have for my copy of Jaws  would suggest that it is a 
standard licence which does not handle Pro at all well, so first thing Monday 
morning, I will get on to the fixers and get them to take out Pro, which I 
never asked for,  which I never asked for and put XP Home back in and, 
hopefully, this will resolve the conflict.
