I've used this program successfully to remove previous versions of installation packages that were preventing me from installing an upgrade. However, just a caution. The following is from the Microsoft site and it pertains to Office 2007 products.
If you go to:

you can
then click on the article number referenced below. I found the program very accessible with JAWS.

Hello Mike

I got it off the microsoft.com website. It's called Windows Installer
Cleanup Utility.

Sorry I don't have a direct link. But try searching on the microsoft.com
site and you should find it.

Hi Jean;

Would you please tell us where this Microsoft Cleanup Tool can be gotten or
the full name of the program/tool? This sounds like a handy tool to have on
hand. Your help will be greatly appreciated by many. Thanks much. Take
care.
Mike

Hello Susie,

I fought with that same problem of not being able to properly install the
sounds for a long time. First, go to Control Panel, and if the Sounds are
installed, you'll see a program like Sounds or something like that in the
Programs List.

If it supposedly installed and the checkbox for sounds is checked in Word,
then there is a problem with its installation. Trust me, simply uninstalling
and reinstalling won't fix it. You need to run a Microsoft Cleanup utility
which will clean the installation files up, then you can properly reinstall
it and it should work.

When you run this program, it lists programs installed, and you can check
the program you want and it will then clean up system files of its history.
Contact me off list and I'll send it to you.
