The JAWS 12 beta seems very stable so far! I was deeply
disappointed in the stability of JAWS 11. In fact, I felt cheated! I was
not able to use JAWS 11 very much all year until the last update. The last
update fixed the beyond annoying issues and finally made it possible to use
daily. The prior strange issues with user scripts of any type and Windows
Live Mail were unexplainable. Tech Support blamed it on my Windows account
and I would need to reinstall Windows. It did not effect any other programs,
which all work fine, so I just used JAWS 10.

I really like the new Settings Center. This should make it easier for users
of all experiences to find the setting they want to change. I had one
exception. I wanted to set punctuation to All for Script Manager. There
was no way to set this directly in Settings Manager or an indication to add
a voice profile. Of course, I knew how to create a new Voice Profile in
JAWS 11 then switch profiles when in Script Manager and this still worked.
If you type in "voice profile" or "profile", nothing is available. If I
just type "voice", there are three hits found, but nothing for voice
profiles. However, for someone who has never figured this out in JAWS 11,
I am sure they will not know how to set this. Is this a bug or just a
suggestion? Are suggestions also submitted as beta bug reports?

By the way, I always set Insert + ` to the SetPunctuation function in
default settings as well.

I would also like to have hotkeys for the Application Volume Controls for
the current application in Vista and Windows 7. This is not an issue if the
current, active application is Windows Media Player or other application
with it's own volume controls. However, many applications, like Internet
Explorer and many others, do not have hotkeys for volume. Needing to Open
the System Tray, Open the Volume Mixer, and find the active application can
be difficult if the application's volume is extremely loud.

I half heartedly attempted to create my own JAWS Scripts to do this using a
small free utility, "nircmd.exe". This works great if you can obtain the
exact name used for the application in the volume mixer. I have not figured
out how to do this, The names are also slightly different in Vista and
Windows 7.

I am excited about the new Settings Center, recent additions to the
scripting language, and the stability of JAWS 12 so far. Of course, I was
excited at first when the JAWS 11 beta first came out as well.

There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any real substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I am working on things that matter.

Hello List,

I'm curious to hear feedback on JAWS 12 so far from those of you who have
installed it.

Regards,
Eric
