Whenever I typed a search phrase into the Google search edit field and hit Enter, nothing happened, and the search field was blank as if I had not typed anything. So I clicked on Options, then Search Settings, and discovered that Google Instant was selected. I have no idea how this happened, but I unselected it, hit the save preferences button, and now Google is working normally again.
