I'm using the 2011 WLM. I should backtrack a little, and say that the
status line does not give, or not reliably, the unread messages status.
I get the count of unread messages when i go to a folder. It does,
however, give you the message details of the message that is currently
nearest or highlighted, with a lot of ... for the dialogue's sake. I have the preview pane checked.

This is the first I have heard of anybody finding a status line in
WLM, very
interesting thank you.

Personally I have not looked at the program for over a year at least.

David: on my Win7 Toshiba if if in Windows Live Mail, I press
JAWSkey+PageDown, the read status line, I get the usual status line
information, number of unread messages in the folder I'm in, etc. It
could
be the vews people are using that enable or disable this.

You can use live mail from XP forward. So far as issues are concerned
that
is another matter, but they aren't operating system specific so far
as
I am
aware, it's the program itself that has problems like no status line
the
last I heard.

David, so, if I upgrade to win 7, I can use windows live mail without
issues? Or should I just go to win 8, use windows live mail and move
on
with my life? I'm beginning to think that I need a masters in
computer
science to send e mails to my friends! It is ridiculous to confront
choices
like this without enough information. And I've been on line with
jaws
since
miy first computer which was windows 95. It just keeps getting worse
and
worse. Marilyn

: Actually it is called windows mail which was introduced in Vista
and
then
: promptly abandon. Yes it is almost the same as outlook express and
it can
be
: enabled in windows 7 the fact is to do it requires adding a few
keys
to
your
: registry and replacing a DLL file or so. I have done it and the
files ETC
: are still on my server I must point out a something. You must have
service
: pack 1 installed prior to enabling windows mail to play it safe. To
be
: honest so far that is the current stumbling block that I am aware
but
that
: does not mean there won't be future issues to come.
:
: A word to the wise and like the note on the server says "this
should
not
be
: done by a beginner".

: SUgar and Scorpio and all: I'm nervous,, too, but hearing that
Outlook
: Express is included in win 7 is easing my mind a bit. I don't do
: complicated things on my computer so I don't need any bells and
whistles.
: However, if msoft is going to cease supporting xp, I'll want to
upgrade my
: operating system. I actually have jaws' last two upgrades but am
still
: using v 12 because it works best.
: I am dependent on all of you to give guidance since I do not know
anyone
: locally who understands a thing about jaws or etc. Maybe I will
just wait
: and see, hoping I don't pass up an opportunity to buy win 7 and get
shoved
: into 8 or something else that I'll hate. Thanks. Marilyn
