well, regardless what I do, I cannot get the braille edge out of terminal
mode.

not sure if the drivers are loading properly or, just what the issue is.

When I did tech support as a GwMicro dealer, you got the Braille Edge out of

terminal mode by having it connected as you do.  When you start your 
computer, and it comes up in terminal mode, unload and then reload Jaws.

Don't know if that helps with the current version, but give it a shot.  You 
completely unload Jaws with Windows-Insert-F4.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
