Hi Marilyn,
Unless you use a third-party program
designed to change the GUI (graphical user interface), it's not going to 
happen.
The only thing available in "classic" in     Windows 7 is the appearance of 
the Desktop.
The plus with Win7 over Win8 is that 7 still has menus in Windows Explorer, 
8 does not.
Windows 7 does not give any option to change the start menu as in Windows XP 
and Vista, but there is no need to be afraid of it,
just takes a little getting used to.
I don't find navigating it any faster as others have claimed
I work mainly from the start menu, and can still operate much quicker with 
the Windows XP start menu.
