Hi Rose,

Does this port work at all? And, can you actually insert the drive or other device into the port? You could have a bad port if nothing works in that one particular port, or if a device refuses to plug into it, you may be trying to insert a USB device into the HDMI port on your computer. They are almost identical, but the HDMI port has two of the corners which are rounded while the USB ports are square at all four corners. It can be hard to determine why a USB device will not work in one port, but will in another, I have a Kingston 3.0 flash drive, and two USB 3.0 ports sitting side by side on my notebook PC, and the drive will work in one of them, but not the other. All of my other devices will work in either one. Go figure.

Would that be why one port on my computer does not work with almost anything
I try to plug in there? It bongs but then the device never works. New
computer HP as of last May.

Hi,

Actually, USB 3.0 ports are blue, and the 2.0 are black. Helpful hint if
someone can see some or if you have sighted help.

Are there any visual difference between 2.0 and 3.0 USB
ports? Just in case I ask someone sighted to take a look
for me.

Call the computer manufacturer's Technical Support Number
with the computer's model number. They will be able to tell
you which ports are USB
3.0 and which are 2.0. They will be grouped together, not
intermixed. For instance, on a laptop, the 3.0 ports are
usually on the left side of the computer when facing the
screen, and the 2.0 ports are on the right side.

Hi

Well, it looks like that sighted assistance is the only way
to identify USB
3.0 ports.

I've wondered the same. How can you tell without sighted
assistance?

Hi

With Windows 7 and JAWS 16, if you have a computer with both
USB 2.0 and USB
3.0 ports, is there a way to determine which ports are USB
3.0 other than the colors on the case?

Thanks.
