Thanks, so basically Windows explorer, Computer and the file explorer are 
basically the same thing?

you can open file explorer at the "this pc" location by pressing windows key + 
E.
However, if you want a "this pc" icon on the desktop (what used to be the 
computer icon):
1. Open the control panel.
2. Open personalisation.
3. tab to the change desktop icons link and open it.
4. check to computer check box, and press ok.

On Windows 8, I can expand the start tiles out and find the computer icon.  I 
right click it and try to find locate tartget and right click it as previously 
advised but for the computer icon, this doesn't seem to appear to I can't 
figure out how to create a desktop computer icon for speed, is anyone able to
