It's more visual appeal than anything.  I guess the screen looks more organized 
and "beautiful"..

Believe it or not, I did read that somewhere in a tech article when the ribbons 
showed up.

the ribbon menus is suppose to add more security however they are suppose to 
accomplish that.  I dislike the ribbon interface as well.
I think microsoft is seeing how complex they can get.
the ribbon interface is basically for power users.  not all of us are power 
users.
I'm probably wrong with my assumption but it is what I think

Where in the world did Office 2010 and other newer programs come up with this 
ribbon idea? It makes no sense to me. I just got some directions, keep them 
handy and follow them. I guess it makes sense to somebody.
